Together with Kokura Castle in Festival

2023 marked the 60th anniversary of Kitakyushu City. The area around Kokura Castle, the venue, was filled with the vibrant atmosphere of the festival, including projection mapping, "Kokura Castle Bamboo Lights", and performances of "Heisei Nakamuraza" in the park. Amidst that bustle, Jun*Juane colored the quiet space inside the castle with the colors of goldfish.

World of Goldfish Expressed by Diverse Methods

In this exhibition, about 60 works were released. Particularly eye-catching were the 2-meter "Noren" (curtains) and works printed on large "Furoshiki" (wrapping cloths). By going beyond the framework of photography and fusing with the texture of cloth, we tried to create an effect as if goldfish were swimming in the space more three-dimensionally and supplely.

Also, for the first time, we unveiled the "Goldfish Chronology" that Jun Iwasaki has been researching. This material that unravels the history of goldfish was an important step in conveying the charm of goldfish from a cultural aspect in addition to its beauty as art.

Radiance of Life Coloring the Space

There was also an exhibition of live goldfish (Ping Pong Pearl) in the venue, and the sight of visitors facing the works enthusiastically and with a calm expression was impressive. The vitality of goldfish captured by Iwasaki and the space composed by Tae Morikawa became one, and it was an opportunity for many people visiting the castle tower to thoroughly enjoy the worldview of Jun*Juane.

Conclusion

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone in the local area and everyone who visited from afar. The second holding at Kokura Castle, the starting point for the two, was a valuable time to reaffirm the path so far and the form of expression to aim for in the future.
