16th Meeting of the IAEG-SDGs Side Exhibition: Sharing the Wisdom of Japanese Culture with the World

16th Meeting of the IAEG-SDGs Side Exhibition: Sharing the Wisdom of Japanese Culture with the World (2025.11.05 - 11.08)

For four days from November 5th to 8th, 2025, we participated in the side exhibition held in conjunction with the "16th Meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs)" organized by the United Nations at the International Conference Center. In this international dialogue setting where experts from around the world gathered, we had the opportunity to widely broadcast the values we cherish through Jun*Juane's Furoshiki and artworks.

Sustainable Harmony Resonating with Diverse Initiatives

At the venue, enthusiastic initiatives from a wide range of sectors were lined up, including companies such as TOTO, Shabondama Soap, Giravanz that are active in Kitakyushu, and local shopping districts. Among them, Jun*Juane exhibited large-format Furoshiki and works utilizing surplus fabrics from factories. Being able to present the "essence of sustainability inherent in Japanese culture," which we have been working on for some time, at this place where world-class discussions take place, was a major milestone in our activities.

Turning the Sentiment of Fabric into an International Common Language

The core of the exhibition was large-format Furoshiki that breathed new life into surplus fabrics that were high quality but underutilized. This project was realized only thanks to the kindness of the companies who allowed us to visit their factories and directly taught us the passion of the craftsmen and the stories residing in the fabrics.

To the domestic and international experts who stopped by, we carefully conveyed the spirituality that Japanese people have nurtured since ancient times: "cherishing and wrapping things," which goes beyond mere recycling. We are convinced that the multifaceted wisdom where a single piece of cloth not only colors daily life but also functions as preparedness for disaster prevention is the very form of sustainability that the future world seeks.

Ideally with Gratitude, to the Next Step

I feel deep relief that we were able to shape our proposal on the international stage. It was four days where I realized again the weight of connecting the baton entrusted by everyone at the factories to the world.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved who gave us the opportunity to exhibit and to everyone who listened enthusiastically to our proposal. We will continue to carefully deliver the gentleness and strength of Japanese tradition to the world.
