Origin and History : It is said that it was created by crossing Osaka Ranchu and Ryukin in Kochi Castle town in the late Edo period(around 1845).It is designated as a natural monument of Kochi Prefecture and is carefully preserved as a local treasure.
Crisis of Extinction and Revival : It suffered devastating damage due to the Kochi Air Raid in 1945 and the Nankai Earthquake in 1946. The episode that an enthusiast, Mr.Hiroe Tamura, brought back only 6 survivors miraculously from the evacuation site and rebuilt the pedigree from there is known as one of the most moving anecdotes in goldfish history.
Morphological Features and Breeding Method : "Curled Tail (or Flat Curled Tail)" is a unique shape in which the base of the tail warps strongly forward.To grow this shape correctly, it is considered a traditional technique to breed in shallow water depth in a dedicated container called "Marubachi" where water flow is unlikely to occur.This is the crystallization of advanced breeding culture where the physical environment brings out the beauty of genetic characteristics.
